Community Engagement
At the Voter Registration and Elections Office, community engagement is a vital part of our mission to promote civic participation and ensure every eligible citizen has the opportunity to vote. We are committed to building strong partnerships and providing education throughout the community to increase awareness and understanding of the electoral process.
Our Community Engagement Efforts Include:
- Partnerships with Community Organizations: Collaborating with civic groups, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, and other community partners to expand access to voter registration and information.
- Voter Education Events: Participating in community forums, town halls, and educational workshops to inform citizens about voting rights, election procedures, election volunteer opportunities and upcoming elections.
- School and College Outreach: Partnering with local high schools, colleges, and universities to engage young voters, provide information on how to register, and participate with internships centered around the electoral process.
Through these efforts, we aim to foster an informed and active electorate and strengthen the democratic process at the local level.
Department Head
Travis Alexander
Travis Alexander began serving as a Richland County’s head election official in April 2023. Executive Director Alexander is an experienced, passionate elections administrator and public service professional currently serving as Executive Director of Voter Registration and Elections for Richland County, South Carolina. In this role, he provides executive leadership for county elections, overseeing voter registration, election operations, and post-election processes while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. He is recognized for strengthening organizational effectiveness, improving workflows, and fostering transparency through active engagement with stakeholders, including election boards, media, and the public.
Prior to his current role, Travis served with the South Carolina State Election Commission as a Program Coordinator II and Area Representative, where he collaborated with counties across the state to deliver training, support election operations, and enhance data reporting and audit processes. He a lso served as Executive Director of Voter Registration and Elections in Pickens County and spent over a decade in Greenville County supporting voter services, poll worker training, and election logistics.
Travis holds a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Charleston Southern University and Dual Bachelor Degrees in History and Secondary Education from Clemson University. He is a certified elections professional through the South Carolina State Election Commission and holds the Certified Elections Registration Administrator (CERA) designation.
