Emergency Solutions Grant

Richland County receives an annual Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These funds help individuals and families in our community who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing their homes.

We partner with nonprofit and faith-based organizations that are members of the local Continuum of Care to deliver these services.

What does the Emergency Solutions Grant program do?

The program is part of a national effort to reduce and end homelessness. It provides support for both emergency needs and long-term solutions to help people find safe, stable housing.

Here’s how the program helps:

Rapid Rehousing

Helps people who are homeless move quickly into permanent housing and provides short-term rental assistance and services.

Street Outreach

Connects with individuals living on the streets to offer support, services, and a path toward stable housing.

Homelessness Prevention

Provides support to help people stay in their current housing and avoid becoming homeless.

Emergency Shelter

Supports shelters that provide a safe place to stay and essential services for those in crisis.

Who receives the funding?

Program funds go to nonprofit and faith-based organizations that are part of Richland County’s Continuum of Care. These groups are experienced in working with people facing housing crises.
