Animals

Richland County Animal Services is responsible for both animal welfare and monitoring for mosquito-borne illnesses.

Education and Outreach

Do you and your neighbors have questions regarding pet laws? Are you or someone you know hosting or planning a community event? We would love to participate.

Animal Care staff participate in a variety of outreach events annually, including career days, homeowners’ meetings, and other community meetings/events.

If you are interested in having Animal Care attend an event, please contact the Ombudsman’s office at 803-929-6000.

Filing animal-related complaints

Citizens can confidentially provide their name and contact information so the responding officer has a point of contact for any additional questions and to update you on the progress or outcome of an investigation. Your information is kept private. You are also allowed to report without providing your information for the follow-up.

Protecting people from diseases spread by bugs like mosquitoes (Vector Control)

A vector means any insect or animal that can carry and spread diseases to people. The most common ones in our area are mosquitoes that can carry illnesses like West Nile Virus, Malaria, and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

The Vector Control team works to keep the community safe and healthy by reducing the risk of getting sick from bug bites.
