Americans with Disabilities Act Notice

The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability by State and local governments. In accordance with the requirements of the ADA, Richland County will not discriminate against individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in admission or access to its services, programs, or activities.

Upon reasonable request and availability, Richland County will provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in Richland County programs, services, and activities. Aids and services may include auxiliary services, such as sign and foreign language interpreters, and internet accessibility services.

Richland County will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications. Although these accommodations can be provided, the ADA does not require Richland County to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose on it an undue financial or administrative burden.

Facility Access to the Public

Richland County is dedicated to providing to individuals with disabilities public access to its facilities and provides public accommodations, such as automatic entrance doors, accessible restrooms, and accessible parking.

Communications

The County provides the public, including individuals with disabilities, with effective communication through the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman documents all communication and distributes them on the basis of the necessary reply.
