How to Apply to Interview for a Richland County Board, Commission or Committee

Applicants must reside in Richland County and disclose any personal or financial interests that could be influenced in a group's decisions.

Step 1.Review the different groups.

  • Review the pages of the service groups you are interested in serving on.
  • Note the dates and times that the group meets to make sure your schedule allows you to attend those meetings.
  • Note any other special qualifications required.

Step 2.Reach out to your County Council representative.

You are strongly encouraged to speak with your County Council representative before applying to share your interest and willingness to serve.

Step 3.Only apply for a posted vacancy.

  • Submit your application and resume only for a posted vacancy.
  • If there are no vacancies in the group(s) you're interested in, you'll need to check back later.
  • Applications that are received expire after one year.

Step 4.We'll schedule your interview.

After you submit an application, the Clerk of Council’s Office will contact you to schedule a brief interview with the Rules and Appointments Committee. Interviews take place on Tuesday afternoons.

Step 4.We'll schedule your interview.

After you submit an application, the Clerk of Council’s Office will contact you to schedule a brief interview with the Rules and Appointments Committee. Interviews take place on Tuesday afternoons.

Current Vacancies

The Rules and Appointments Committee will tentatively start the interview process in July 2025 with recommendations for appointments following thereafter.

Now accepting applications to serve on the following:

  • Airport Commission – Two (2) Vacancies
  • Accommodations Tax Committee – Six (6) Vacancies (TWO applicants must have a background in the Lodging Industry, TWO applicants must have a background in the Hospitality Industry, and ONE applicant must have a cultural background, and ONE is an at-large position)
  • Assessment Appeals Board – One (1) Vacancy
  • Building Codes Board of Appeals – Five (5) Vacancies (ONE applicant must be from the Architecture Industry, ONE applicant must be from the Gas Industry, ONE applicant must be from the Plumbing Industry, TWO applicants must be from Fire Industry as alternates)
  • Business Service Center Appeals Board – Three (3) Vacancies (TWO applicants must be CPAs and ONE must be from the Business Industry)
  • Hospitality Tax Committee – Five (5) Vacancies (TWO applicants must be from the Restaurant Industry)
  • Midlands Workforce Development Committee – One (1) Vacancy (Applicant must represent the Private Sector)
  • Music Festival Commission – One (1) Vacancy
  • Planning Commission – One (1) Vacancy
  • Procurement Review Panel – Five (5) Vacancies (ONE applicant must represent the Construction Industry, ONE applicant must represent the Professional Services Industry, ONE applicant must represent the Service Industry, ONE applicant must represent the Public Procurement Industry, and ONE applicant must represent the Consumer Industry)
