2022 Annual Planning Conference:
Planning for Resiliency
In celebration of Community Planning Month, the Richland County Neighborhood Improvement Program presents the Annual Planning Conference: Planning for Resiliency. This year’s theme is promoting Environmental Resilience in the community with a focus on extreme temperature effects and mitigation. The conference will feature talks and panels about resiliency in the Midlands with environmental experts and representatives from government departments and local nonprofits. Conference attendees will come away with the knowledge and resources to better prepare themselves and their neighborhoods for the effects of extreme heat and climate change.
This year’s featured speaker is Dr. Kirstin Dow from the University of South Carolina’s Department of Geography. She is a social environmental geographer focusing on understanding climate impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation. Dr. Dow serves as a principal investigator for the Carolina Integrated Sciences and Assessments, an organization that integrates climate information into water, health, and coastal management and decision making.
As part of the theme of Environmental Resilience, this year’s planning conference will take place in the Magnolia Room at Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Attendees can experience the conference while surrounded by the beautiful gardens.
Attendance is FREE, however space is LIMITED and registration is REQUIRED for conference attendance. All registered attendees will receive zoo admission for the day of the conference and lunch will also be served.
