Derrek Pugh represents District 2, which stretches just northwest of Columbia to parts of Northeast Richland, including Blythewood. He is highly involved in local government, having served as a commissioner on the Planning Commission and as vice chairman of the Board of Zoning and Appeals for the Town of Blythewood. He has also served as a board member for the Ray of Hope Feeding Program, the Carolina Legacy Council and the Capital City Club Membership Committee in Columbia.
Pugh is a leader in program development for children in greater Columbia and surrounding areas. With his wife, he founded Evolution SC, a nonprofit organization that provides independent living skills and leadership essentials to youth in the Columbia area, and he is deputy director of the S.C. Youth Challenge Academy, an entity of the S.C. National Guard. Pugh previously served as the programming supervisor for the Richland County Recreation Commission, where he designed, implemented and supervised summer camp and after-school programs.
He enjoys spending time with friends and family, but most importantly his wife, Teshieka.
